EJMS FAQs.
Which course should I choose?
EJMS has many different ensembles and courses, and every child at EJMS will have their own timetable for all the things that they are involved in. To help you find you way through our courses, here is a guide to some of the options available. If you have any further queries regarding courses or availability of lessons, please email the administrator for further information.
My child is 3, and is just starting their musical journey.
Register your child now for a place on a beginner Musicianship course. Consider putting your child on the waiting list for an Early Starter course (15 minute individual lesson on violin or cello), or an Paired Lesson (30 minute paired lesson on violin or cello), or a Start to Play course (30 minute small group lesson on recorder or guitar) for when they reach the age of 5 to 6.
My child is 5, and is just starting their musical journey.
From age 5, children can begin playing an instrument straight away on the Early Starter course (15 minute individual lesson on violin, cello or recorder), or a Paired Lesson (30 minute paired lesson on violin, cello or recorder), or a Start to Play course (30 minute small group lesson on recorder). All these three courses also include a 30 minute Musicianship class.
If they do not wish to start playing an instrument straightaway, register them for a beginner Musicianship course and bring them to one of our Come & Play events where we will help them choose which instrument they would like to learn (held in February and June).

I want my child to take Music Exams.
Register your child now for a Full Course (30 minute individual lesson on any instrument and access to all other EJMS activities). We fully support children in taking Music Exams when they are ready to do so. When we enter a child for an exam we will give them extra support classes from our Aural Coaches and our Accompanists. We have ABRSM Examiners visiting EJMS on the last two Saturdays of every term so that students can take their exams on the premises with the piano accompanist that they have been working with that term. We also offer support for children taking Trinity/Guildhall Examinations.

My child wants to learn to play the piano.
We don’t offer piano lessons at EJMS, as we concentrate our resources on teaching instruments that are able to play in musical ensembles. We believe that taking part in a ensemble makes a child a better musician, and it is fun! You can still register your child now for a Choir Course (Ealing Children’s Choir for age 7-11, or Ealing Youth Choir for age 11-18), or bring them along to one of our Come & Play events (held in February and June) to see if there is another instrument that they would like to learn.
I'm an adult and I would like to join in as well!
Parents with a child registered at EJMS are welcome to register for the Adult Chorale, volunteer to help in the Cafe, or just enjoy a proper cup of coffee over your newspaper. Adults are also welcome to play in certain of the EJMS Ensembles. Please talk to the Music Director for more details.
My child would like to join only for Ensembles/Orchestras.
Come and try our choir and ensemble course. This is FREE for the first term. They will be able to join any ensemble that is relevant to their experience (we will help you work out which ones are most suitable).
They will also be able to join a Choir relevant to their age group, and attend a Theory class relevant to their experience. Under our Bursary Scheme EJMS offers a free introductory term for this course.
